Outlook: Accessing the Temporary Internet Files Folder for Attachments

clock August 19, 2008 02:45 by author Craig Hinkel

So I messed up early this morning.  I opened a word document from an Outlook email and forgot to save it off to another directory.  I worked on the file for about 2 hours and then closed it.  I went back later on and could not find the file anywhere.  I knew it was stored in my temporary internet files directory, but the directory itself was hidden.

After some googling, I found out they store the path in a registry key:

OutlookSecureTempFolder in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\Security subkey (for Outlook 2002; change 10.0 to 11.0 for Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 or to 9.0 for Outlook 2000)

My path ended up being:

C:\Documents and Settings\chinkel\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.Outlook\EPDPDDUV

It saved me a couple hours of work, but I doubt an ordinary windows user could have figured this out.

10th Annual Weigand Open

clock August 13, 2008 05:07 by author Craig Hinkel

The best hack tournament of the year was this past weekend, the Weigand Open.  We played at the Mill course with my dad, Brian Merz and Jason Ernst.  Dad's back was killing him so I hit two balls most of the time.  We finished 12 under including our yellow ball.  Jason and Brian both played very well.  Jason made two distant putts that kept the momentum going strong.

Here is Keith Weigand's email after the event:

Hello all,
I want to thank all of you for participating in the 10th Annual Weigand "1 ball" Open.  I had a great time and hopefully you did as well.  If you didn't, there is something wrong with you.  This was the 1st year we tried playing skins and it was an absolute failure - nobody won.  It was decide by the skins committee that all the skins will be carried over until next year, so there's already $180 in the pot.  This is also a motivating factor to both play in the 11th Annual Weigand Open and participate in next years skins.
If anyone cares who won (overall), it was Team D. Trenkamp, Sheppard, Schaefer and Bien with a 58 (HC - 59) -Trenkamp will be seriously handicapped next year
Team Hinkel, Hinkel, Mertz and Ernst came in 1st with the Handicap shooting a 59 (HC - 59) (Hinkel's will be seriously handicapped next year as well)
And last but not least, the Last place Team was D. Weigand, Rice, Balzer and Engelhardt shooting a stellar 72 (HC - 67).  You will get 10 stokes next week.
With the handicapping, most everyone else was right around 61-63.
Thanks again,
Keith
PS - John Coyle - I think you owe me $5 for your team beating my Dad's team with the Handicapping system (oh and by 3 strokes).

Hilton Head Island Vacation

clock August 5, 2008 10:18 by author Craig Hinkel

family

My family spent the past two weeks in Hilton Head, SC.  We stayed at my dad's house in Sea Pines.  Marcie, Jason, Isabel, Gabrielle, Shirley Ernst and dad all stayed the first week.  We had an excellent time, check the bar bill for reference!

Jason and I beat dad in golf, as usual.  He won the first outing, but we kicked his butt on the next two!  I shot an 81 at Hilton Head Country Club, my best round of the week (3 birdies).  Jason scored well on the holes he needed to.  All the women and kids stayed home and drank all of the beer at the pool.

We at like kings all week.  Jason made a fantastic crab boil while I added some steaks.  We had Italian night,  Caribbean Jerk chicken, Wild Wings and the Mellow Mushroom pizza.

Cooper was a wonderful baby all week.  He ate lunch and slept until dinner each day so that Kim and I could enjoy the pool with the other kids.

Shirley and the kids played all week.   When she left Carson kept asking for 'ShirShee'.

By the end of the two weeks, we were ready for the journey back to the real world.
